Project Overview
TEREYN Architects were commissioned to transform this semi-detached family home in Milton through a comprehensive scheme involving a single-storey rear extension, double-storey side extension, front extension, and full internal refurbishment. The goal was to create a home that balances modern comfort, sustainability, and functionality, a place for both family life and working from home.
Sustainability played a key role in the design, including a semi-intensive green roof that improves insulation and biodiversity, contributing to a more energy-efficient and environmentally conscious home.
The client’s vision was centred around space, light, and connection. A larger open-plan kitchen and dining area now flows naturally into a bright coffee space at the rear, overlooking the garden — offering a daily retreat that embraces natural light and garden views. Upstairs, careful internal refurbishment introduced enhanced acoustic insulation throughout, significantly improving comfort without compromising room sizes.
As part of the refurbishment, a bespoke home sauna was incorporated, offering a luxurious wellness feature that enhances the client’s daily routine and complements the calm, restorative atmosphere throughout the house.
Navigating the planning process required close coordination with the local authority to ensure the proposals respected the surrounding character while meeting both local and national planning policies. Equally important was designing with buildability in mind, ensuring the project aligned with the client’s expectations and budget without sacrificing quality or vision.
The result is a contemporary, sustainable home that enhances daily living, providing functional family spaces, modern working solutions, and meaningful connections to nature. This home now reflects the lifestyle and values of its owners, offering comfort, efficiency, and long-term value.
